At the start of September after taking by second-biggest loss of my trading career, I decided to size down. At first, I was taking a position of 100 shares but after realizing that 100 shares of a $10+ is still a sizeable position, I decided to only take a position size of 1 share. This way it's simple. I've just now realized that commissions are eating me alive. Having to pay $8 to make a $.01-3/share gain is just not efficient. I might have to size back up a little depending on the price of the stock, even though it is much quicker and easier to have one set size. Getting to the point of the post, since I've started sizing down, I've been doing great. In September, I didn't trade much, only taking 2 or 3 trades. But in October, I've taken 6-12 trades so far. I only have 1 red day between the two months. Compared to the 7 green days, this feels great. I've been trading in an FBLA competition for school and my "team" is first in the state and 8th in the nation. I can't see how many teams are in the nation but I know that there are 150+ teams in my state. I think this experience has really allowed me to grow as a trader. There isn't any money on the line, but there is a tremendous amount of respect. Half of the respect is from outside forces like my peers, teachers, and parents. The other half is having and earning the respect from my own self. I want to prove to myself that I can make it as a trader, and I think this experience has really helped me seal that belief.
